Mariana Trench

about

We plunged into the water's depths...where light would dare not penetrate even if it were able...further and farther we made our dark descent toward an unknown no one should ever know...the deeper we went the faster it seemed, even though we had been traversing the drink for many hours, until a queer colour emerged from the abyss...not altogether green but something startlingly unlike what occurs in nature...contrasted against a pure black backdrop...attempts at contacting those above us proved futile with only the reply of a strange frequency on the other end...the closer whatever the source of the hue came in to view the more it grew in intensity and it soon swallowed the unending darkness...filling our underwater craft and blinding our vision with its unnatural luminescence...an eventual adjustment of the cones and rods in our eyes allowed us to begin making out blurred structures as we reached fathoms no one has experienced before...a geometry completely alien to what we understand as shape and the scope of which unhinged scientific logic...bereft of reason or sound of mind, we watched as what was thought to be odd rock formations were actually the peaks of gigantic buildings surrounding us on all sides...the sunken city's supernatural design withstanding, the real shock to sanity came as a shadowy figure approached the windows...it swam up to the glass and stared at us with enormous eyes...then more appeared from out the hideous luminescence...and more...beings of humanoid stature with fish-like attributes surrounded us on all sides...swimming, circling, sizing us up...their interest suddenly turned sinister, savagely scratching at every exposed surface simultaneously, seeking a way inside...thoughts of compressive implosion was suspended when the attack ceased as if on command...the creatures swam off into the murky shadows saving us a moments respite before that horror was replaced by the maddening size of a horrific tentacle wrapping itself around our craft...obscuring any more nightmarish details which might have been gleaned from any of the portholes...a sensation of being pulled deeper rather than sinking coupled with the hindsight of despondency was all that was left for us.............
